About the clinic

Located in North West Tasmania, the clinic is located a 25 minute drive from Devonport giving easy access to the Spirit of Tasmania and the airport. The clinic itself is on the main street in Sheffield with plenty of parking and access to stores and restaurants.

We're a privately owned clinic employing 3.5 veterinarians. We treat a wide range of patients, small animals, large animals, wildlife and exotics and  go far beyond the scope of a general practice. You will have opportunities to practise ophthalmology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, engage with complex medical cases, practise reproductive medicine and so much more.

More than a job, it’s a lifestyle

We’re on the main street of a bustling semi-rural town surrounded by incredible views of sweeping fields and the statuesque silhouette of Mt Roland. The town itself is the last stop before Cradle Mountain and has developed quite a tourist trade with over 140 hand painted murals all over the town.

The community here is genuinely so warm and caring, often coming together to support members in crisis and hosting regular events like Steamfest, the Claude Road markets, Mural fest, yoga and wellness classes and playing host to a huge rowing scene, pony and horse clubs and a surprisingly bustling LGBT scene.

What sets us apart?

In an age of corporate takeover, Sheffield Vet Clinic has managed to stay privately owned. This means we are able to be highly flexible with work hours and let you practice veterinary medicine your way and to prioritise your own values. You’ll be free to pursue your own interests and passions. We pride ourselves on teamwork and collaboration meaning that your ideas and values will be implemented in the clinic.

Unlike many practices that describe themselves as like a family, the team at SVC is made up of genuinely kind individuals who are able to rely on one another. We’re proud of the work culture we have built here. Your input and opinions will never be ignored or swept to the side

We are huge supporters of professional development and we will do everything we can to support your continued personal development. We offer the standard week of study leave, but if you would like a workshop or course, all you need to do is ask. We currently have one vet studying to sit her membership exams in imaging and are financially supporting our staff to attend several workshops, conferences and lectures all over Australia this year.

The clinic is owned and operated by Dr Michael Reilly who is just a little obsessed with the latest veterinary technology. Consequently you will have access to all the toys a vet could ever want, included but not limited to a state of the art video endoscope, im3 dental machine, dental radiography, digital radiography (field and in house), reproductive and small animal ultrasound, IDEXX procyte, coagulation and catalyst, ventilator, orthopaedic gear, tonometry, etc. If you want it and we don’t already have it, Dr Reilly is pretty easily convinced.

Who we are looking for?
